Royal Bath And West Show

We joined with MidSARC1 to staff a public exhibit and special event station GB0RBW at the prestigious Royal Bath and West show.

MidSARC did a great job with the stand and Andrew G7KNA brought RSGB2 exhibition materials to make a good thing better.

Amateur radio was one of the exhibits at the Imagineering marquee, imagineering is all about introducing the excitement and challenge of engineering and how things work to a young audience of 8-16 year olds.

This was the first day of the show, and MidSARC had a good display including HF and VHF special event station GB0RBW, a morse example via a wire link, Amateur TV from one end of the stand to the other. Also on hand was a SDR showing morse from a beacon on the satellite ES’hail via a dish outside.

RSGB District Representative for the area Andrew Jenner G7KNA was doing a great job explaining what was on offer. A good stream of visitors took a look

Operating the GB0RBW station was a challenge because the local QRM was quite high. After all, we had set up in the Imagineering marquee which had the highest concentrations of computers and technology in the show. The acoustic noise level was also quite high due to a nearby compressor. Nevertheless, contacts were being made steadily through the day.
